Radon Fan Maintenance and Replacement
A mitigation system needs periodic checks to keep doing its job.
What to check, and how often
Check the system's warning indicator — a manometer or gauge — monthly. Listen for unusual fan noise quarterly, since it can signal a failing fan before it fully stops. Have the system professionally serviced annually.
Lifespan
A well-maintained system typically lasts 15–20 years, though the fan itself may need replacement every 10–15 years. Retesting every two years confirms the system is still holding levels down — the fastest way to catch a fan that's failed silently.
