How Sub-Slab Depressurization Works

The standard mitigation approach for basements and slab-on-grade homes, explained.

The mechanism

A fan draws radon-laden air from beneath the foundation slab and vents it above the roofline, before it can enter the living space. It works by creating negative pressure under the slab relative to indoors, so soil gas is pulled outward and up rather than in.

Why it's the default

It's the standard approach for the most common Okanagan foundation types — full basements and slab-on-grade construction — and is verified with a post-installation test rather than assumed to work.
