Radon in a Crawlspace Foundation: What to Do
Crawlspaces need a different mitigation approach than a basement or slab.
Why crawlspaces are different
A crawlspace exposes soil directly beneath the home, which can be a significant radon entry point if the space isn't sealed or ventilated — different from a poured basement slab.
Crawlspace encapsulation
The standard fix is a sealed vapour barrier across the crawlspace floor, with a suction point drawing air from beneath it — mechanically similar in principle to sub-slab depressurization, but built for an unfinished dirt or gravel floor instead of concrete.
