Long-Term vs. Short-Term Radon Testing
Two valid methods, built for different situations — here's when each one applies.
Long-term: the accurate picture
A long-term test runs 90+ days using an alpha-track detector and is Health Canada's preferred method, because it captures the seasonal variation radon levels naturally go through.
Short-term: the fast picture
A short-term test runs 2–7 days using a continuous radon monitor. It's a reasonable screening tool for real estate timelines, but by design it can't capture seasonal swings the way a long-term test does.
