How to Test Your Home for Radon
What closed-house conditions mean in practice, and where to place a test device.
Closed-house conditions
Windows and doors stay closed for 12 hours before and during testing, aside from normal entry and exit. Fans that alter air pressure are avoided, while normal heating and cooling continue as usual.
Where to place the device
Testing happens in the lowest livable level of the home, away from kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms where humidity and ventilation can skew a reading.
