Radon in Well Water: What It Means for Air Testing

Radon can enter a home through well water, but soil gas is the primary pathway air testing measures.

Two different pathways

Radon gas dissolved in groundwater can be released into indoor air during water use — showers, laundry, dishwashing — but for most homes, soil gas entering through the foundation is the dominant source of indoor radon, which is what a standard air test measures.

If your home is on well water

A standard indoor air test still applies and is the right starting point. Homes on private wells with specific water-quality concerns should raise them directly when booking a test so testing can be scoped appropriately.
